Still in a Career Daze about your future?

Then come to BMHS Career Focus Days and see if the hospitality and tourism industry is the answer for you.

How we can help you make an informed decision about your future.

Several times a year Blue Mountains Hotel School (BMHS), one of Australia’s leading private hotel schools, holds Career Focus Days on its campus in Leura.

The Career Focus Days program provides you with an introduction to hospitality and tourism management with a view to entering this rapidly growing industry.

Participants in Career Focus Days are given the chance to discover the industry from the inside working alongside our own expert and internationally trained staff in the simulated hotel No 1 Chambers on BMHS Leura campus.

This Career Focus Days experience will help you to make the all-important decision of where you want to study and whether hospitality and tourism is the right career choice for you.

What to expect:

Your Career Focus experience with us usually includes:

  • Site inspections of and visits to different hotels
  • Industry based lectures and seminars delivered by hospitality and tourism experts on staff
  • Classes in Restaurant Service, Kitchen Operations, Front Office Management, Housekeeping Practice, and Event Management
  • Opportunities to talk with current Australian and international students
  • Exploring the Blue Mountains and Leura village
  • Leisure activities such as bushwalking, playing pool, barbecues and movies

Be our guest

During Career Focus Days, you will be our guest in the on campus hotel No 1 Chambers. Each twin share room has its own ensuite bathroom, with linen and towels provided. The rooms are also equipped with direct-dial STD phones.

When there are no spare rooms available on the BMHS campus, Career Focus Day participants stay in a similar quality local hotel close by.

Tech, Rec and Food needs

As a Career Focus Day participant you are entitled to:

  • Access to our computer lab with 24-hour internet access.
  • The School’s recreational facilities including an outdoor swimming pool, basketball and tennis courts and student recreation lounges with cable TV, pool and table tennis.
  • All your meals served on campus in our No 1 Chambers hotel restaurants or at a local quality restaurant.

What to Pack:

As you are thinking about entering a professional image industry, a smart appearance is important for Career Focus Days. For all practical classes and during the normal campus day, you will be required to wear a collared long sleeved white shirt and black pants/skirt with black leather flat enclosed shoes. Hipster pants or jeans are not acceptable attire.

At all other times you will wear smart casual clothing (this does not include thongs). All BMHS students wear name badges and you will also be provided with a name badge. As there will be opportunities to participate in organised leisure activities, make sure you pack casual clothing.

Please note: As the weather in the Blue Mountains can be very changeable please bring suitable clothing for all weather conditions. A jumper and/or spray jacket is recommended.

The School will provide you with all the professional equipment, stationery and course notes required.

Need transport?

Students who require transport to the Blue Mountains from Sydney will be collected from either Sydney Central Railway Station (SCRS) at 09.30am or Sydney Domestic Airport Terminal (SDAT) at 10.00am on the first day. You will be returned to SDAT by 3.00pm and SCRS by 3.30pm on the last day.

ALL students must return the Transport Request Form and the Conditions of Acceptance Form.

Students not requiring transport to BMHS may meet the Career Focus Days Coordinator at the No1 Chambers Reception at 12 noon on the first day.

Your final check out from campus

Final BMHS campus check out will be at 1.00pm on the last day. A short certificate presentation will take place at midday, followed by lunch to which family and friends are invited. All family members visiting the campus are required to wear smart casual attire.
