F&B SHOW AND TELL CAREER EXPO

On Tuesday 31 July, students returning from their Level 1 Career Development placements held their Food & Beverage Show and Tell Career Expo in the Fitzroy Room to share information about their placement properties with fellow-students through expo-style displays of posters, laptop slideshows and powerpoint presentations, brochures, and postcards.

Featured properties and companies included Peppers Fairmont Resort Leura, Four Seasons Sydney, Stamford, Toga (Vibe and Medina), Sofitel in Brisbane, Sebel, Langham and Hotel Windsor in Melbourne, Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas, Hyatt Regency Coolum, Stella Resorts (Mantra), Radisson, Amora Hotels, DayDream Island Resort and Spa, Hayman Island, Oaks serviced apartments in Melbourne, Shangri-La, Rydges in Auckland, and Stapleford Park Country House Hotel and Sporting Estate, UK.

One of the more unusual placements on show was the Desert Cave Hotel in Coober Pedy, the famous opal mining centre in South Australia. Ms Nora Skantz from Sweden enjoyed her F&B experience at the 50-suite property which includes 19 underground rooms as well as an underground shopping arcade dug out of the red sandstone in the heart of opal country.

The other unusual placement was Stapleford Park Country House, one of England's finest stately homes, set in 500 acres of woods, parkland, and gardens in Leicestershire, with a heritage stretching back to the 14th century. The 55 individually designed and sponsored bedrooms, ranging from Range Rover, MGM, and Crabtree & Evelyn to Pirelli, IBM and Coca Cola, provide guests with a unique accommodation experience.

“An interesting development in recent placements is students choosing boutique operations such as Stapleford Park,” says Career Development Manager, Ms Janette Illingsworth, “While we continue to have strong relations with the big hotel chains, we are also developing links with smaller boutique properties to give students the greatest flexibility in their placement and career choices.”
