BMHS HEAD OF RESEARCH LECTURES IN UQ MASTERS

This semester Mark Woodbridge, Head of Research at BMHS, has been a guest lecturer at the School of Tourism, University of Queensland. His postgraduate unit in the Master of Business program at the School, International Hotel Management Operations was delivered at UQ’s St Lucia campus in “intense” mode and incorporated debating into the assessment for the unit for the first time. The Dux of the undergraduate course at BMHS in Autumn 2007, Vivien Nguyen, was one of the students in this class.

“This is a tremendous vote of confidence in the expertise of our academic staff and further strengthens the ties between The University of Queensland and the Blue Mountains Hotel School,” says BMHS Assistant Dean Ms Julie Henderson.
EVENTS: COCKTAILS AND CINEMA

Level 2 students in the Hospitality and Tourism Events and Project Management elective completed two successful events in September.

More than 170 guests attended a special screening of The Bourne Ultimatum on Saturday 8 September at The Edge cinema. The themed pre-movie event included an exclusive red carpet arrival, champagne and canapés, and raffle tickets sold by secret service agents.

HELPING HAND AT Q-STATION COMMUNITY DAY

Students of the Blue Mountains Hotel School and the Australian International Hotel School gave a helping hand for a Community Day, open to members of the local community in Manly, at the Quarantine Station, North Head over the weekend of 15-16 September.

CEO Mr Guy Bentley received the following message of gratitude from Mr Simon McArthur General Manager (Mawland Quarantine Station): “On behalf of Mr Max Player and our Q-Station team, I would like to offer my sincere thanks for making available students of BMHS and AIHS to assist us with the Quarantine Station Community Day of 15-16 September 2007. The students brought into the site a sense of fresh energy and customer service that was most appreciated by visitors and our Q-Station team.

I would also like to recognise the considerable effort of Joe Zhou (BMHS Duty Manager) for driving the mini-bus not only to and from the Blue Mountains and Manly twice, but also between the entrance and Wharf Precinct where the Community Day was held, all day long.

Our Q-Station team sees the Blue Mountains School as a brother organisation from which we can develop many more mutually beneficial initiatives. We are proud to include the school in such strategically important initiatives designed to build local community support and an overall; sustainable special interest tourism business.”
