RUDY MAGHARIKI
Graduated December 2000
Room Service Manager, Hilton Marco Beach Island, Florida, USA .

“Six months ago, I graduated from BMIHMS with my Advanced Diploma. During my last semester in school and with the help of the industry placement department, I applied through WISE Company to work in the USA in any international hotel. I got offered many options but I chose the Hilton on Marco Island, Florida which is a four diamond star Hotel, especially considering that I wanted to work on an island!

I was accepted as a server in the restaurant of the Hotel and started the
first week of January 2001 as a morning F/T server. Because I had stayed at the Hilton for more than a month, I also used to work night shifts as it was the high season and they needed staff. I worked for almost two months without any days off but I liked my job so I didn’t mind.

While I was still working as a server/ cashier, I did a few shifts as Host and Room Service Attendant. I was waiting for my 3 months’ probationary period to finish so I could tell the HR Department that I wanted to move around. But as soon as I had finished my 3 months, the HR Director came and asked if I was interested in a F&B Administration Assistant position. I accepted.

However, one week before I took up the position, the Room Service
Manager got promoted to Restaurant Manager and the F&B Director told me that with my knowledge and experience, I would be very good in the Room Service’s position. There were many candidates, both internal and external, who applied for the job. After I did three interviews with the Room Service Manager, F&B Director and the GM of the hotel, I got the position.

And now I have been two months as Room Service Manager, responsible also for the mini-bars and a hospitality department and in charge of 15 people. I have interviewed, hired and fired people in that period and next week I will be starting my Manager on Duty shifts.

I want to thank BMIHMS for every bit of help, every lecture and every skill that you gave me so I can be where I am now after only six months from
my graduation and wherever the road will take me in the future!”
